Athena Terms of Service
Effective date: October 1, 2026
These Terms describe the operation and permitted use of Athena.
Athena is a privately operated AI and document-management system. It is not offered as a general public service.
1. Purpose
Athena provides private document-management, information-management, synchronization, archival, retrieval, and AI-assisted analysis functions.
Athena may interact with authorized services including Google Drive and Gmail.
2. Authorized Use
Athena may only access Google services after the Google account owner grants OAuth authorization.
The account owner controls which permissions Athena receives and may revoke those permissions at any time.
3. Google Drive
When full Google Drive access is authorized, Athena may perform operations including:
- reading and downloading files;
- creating files and folders;
- renaming files;
- moving files;
- updating file metadata;
- synchronizing documents;
- placing files in trash;
- restoring files;
- deleting files when permitted by Athena's operating policies and owner authorization.
Athena may preserve historical or canonical copies of Drive content on private infrastructure.
4. Gmail
Athena uses read-only Gmail permission.
Athena may retrieve and analyze authorized messages and attachments for document ingestion and information-management purposes.
The Gmail authorization described here does not permit Athena to send, modify, or delete Gmail messages.
5. Data and Canonical Records
Athena may maintain canonical copies, historical versions, metadata, hashes, indexes, extracts, provenance information, and related records on privately controlled infrastructure.
Google Drive may function as an active working environment while Athena maintains the canonical historical record.
6. Automated Operations
Athena may perform automated operations such as:
- synchronization;
- classification;
- naming normalization;
- integrity verification;
- duplicate identification;
- version preservation;
- archival;
- controlled file organization.
Automated destructive actions may be subject to additional safeguards or explicit owner authorization.
7. Availability and Accuracy
Athena is operated as a private system and is provided without a guarantee of uninterrupted availability.
Automated analysis and AI-generated classifications may contain errors. Important operations may therefore be subject to verification, audit, or human approval.
8. Security
Reasonable technical controls are used to protect Athena and its credentials, but no computer system can guarantee complete security.
The owner is responsible for controlling access to Athena infrastructure and connected accounts.
9. Privacy
Athena's collection and use of Google user data is described in the Athena Privacy Policy:
